University of Jeddah President’s Visit to Al-Kamil Branch

His Excellency Dr. Adnan bin Salem Al-Humaidan, President of the University of Jeddah, inaugurated today a diverse package of academic and research projects, developmental initiatives, and the signing of several cooperation and partnership agreements with various government entities. He also laid the foundation stone for the commencement of works on the electrical network and infrastructure development project at the University of Jeddah’s Al-Kamil branch. This comes within the university’s comprehensive plan to develop academic specializations across its branches, link its programs to the labor market, enhance professional skills, and integrate them into academic curricula.

His Excellency also inaugurated a branch of the Applied College to support the sustainable competitive advantage of the university’s branches by adopting an academic and training policy based on program alignment and integrating scientific competitions to graduate multi-skilled generations capable of keeping pace with developments in the labor market.

During his visit to the Al-Kamil branch, Dr. Al-Humaidan also inaugurated the Research and Innovation Unit, which aims to establish a distinguished system for scientific research and innovation capable of generating and applying knowledge in ways that serve local, developmental, and national needs—both current and future—while enhancing opportunities for sustainable development. This is in line with the university’s research priorities and in support of Saudi Vision 2030. The unit encompasses three main tracks: environmental sustainability, food science and food security, and developmental studies.

Believing in the importance of endowed research chairs in achieving sustainable development goals, generating knowledge, and supporting the knowledge economy, Dr. Al-Humaidan also inaugurated the University of Jeddah Chair for the Development of Al-Kamil Governorate. The chair aims to provide an innovative research environment that generates and produces knowledge by adopting a well-established scientific methodology to support development and sustainability in Al-Kamil Governorate, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and the University of Jeddah’s community service and research leadership mission—both locally and globally.

In an unprecedented move, and as part of the day’s achievements, His Excellency signed three cooperation agreements with several government entities during his visit to the Al-Kamil branch. These included the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Office in Al-Kamil, the General Education Office in the governorate, and Al-Kamil General Hospital. These agreements aim to strengthen the foundations of joint cooperation between the university and community service institutions in the governorate, harnessing the university’s capabilities and academic expertise to develop the governorate within a fruitful and constructive strategic partnership framework.

In line with the ongoing partnership between the University of Jeddah’s Al-Kamil branch and the Al-Kamil Municipality, His Excellency also launched two strategic sustainable volunteer initiatives during his visit—“Hadariyoun” (Urban Ambassadors) and “Tadweer” (Recycling). These initiatives aim, on the one hand, to enhance the urban and visual landscape of the governorate, and on the other hand, to achieve environmental sustainability, preserve natural resources, and reduce various types of pollution.
